Chandigarh - a vibrant new city has many firsts to its credit. But alas on the fateful day of 2nd December 2003, news of the ultimate sacrifice of Sgt Uday Singh (US Army) in Habbaniyah, Iraq on 1st December 2003 was given to the father of this young and courageous soldier.

The family remains eternally grateful to the people of Chandigarh, especially the common man who shared in their grief.

Uday had loved the city and would always tell his parents of how much he missed Chandigarh, and had made it a point to return every year to Chandigarh to his ancestral home.

A memorial in his honour has been established at House No - 1550, Sector 18,Chandigarh, India (his ancestral home) and also a memorial to perpetuate his memory at his School, St Stephen's Sector 45, Chandigarh.
